Head forester Olly and his team manage the 350 acres of diverse woodland on Whitbourne Estate.
We are proud to have two registered seed stands of high quality sessile oak. We have won numerous awards for the quality of the standing timber of these magnificent trees; a credit to the management of previous generations. We retain the best oak trees for acorn seed collection. Mature trees, thinnings and coppice are harvested when “ready” and sold for timber and firewood or used for our own in-house biomass woodchip district heating system.
There are over 200 separate compartments of diverse species throughout the estate. Every year the team plant as many as 5,000 new trees to ensure that clear fell areas are restocked at a sustainable level.
The woods are also the backdrop for the private pheasant shoot.
